Density and Temperature Profiling to Meet API Guidelines
Do you have a stratifying product? Does your tank gauge support temperature and/or density profiling?

  • A Density profile allows the operator to check product conditions, such as:
  • Has the product been mixed correctly prior to a shipment?
  • Has the proper settling time been allowed for product after receipt?
  • What is the specific gravity of my jet (Aviation) fuel?

FuelsManager® is able to upload the density and/or temperature data from a servo or radar tank gauge via an 8130 Remote Terminal Unit. The profile data is stored in a secure database and can be printed as required. Alarms can be configured based on various criteria.

Profiling of density is best preformed by a contact device that meets the guidelines set forth by the American Petroleum Institute (API). FuelsManager® currently supports the Varec 6000 Servo Tank Gauge that provides density spot checks or density profiling. An integrated average temperature device, such as the 4535/4538/4539 ATC, also provides temperature profiling. In addition FuelsManager can receive data from an Enraf 854 Servo gauge and provide average density and a temperature profile if an average temperature device is also integrated.

Alternatively, a non-contact, Varec 7500 Radar Tank Gauge or Enraf 873 Radar could be used. Since radar technology is a non-contact method of measurement, it is only possible to measure an average density via a pressure transmitter. If an averaging temperature element device is connected to a radar system, a full temperature profile is also possible. This is commonly referred to as a Hybrid configuration.
